• The ability to use English effectively is particularly important in our globalised world.
• For successful communication in a foreign language, schools should not only teach language skills but also help children develop perspective-taking and empathy.
• tjfbg offers a weekly one-lesson-hour Begegnungsunterricht class in grade 2. Participation is voluntary.
• In accordance with the primary school curriculum, lessons in Year 3 begin with two hours per week. One of these hours is taught in split groups in Years 3 and 4. The aim is to introduce children to the language through play and make learning it fun.
• In grades 3 and 4, children learn with "Sunshine" (Cornelsen Verlag). The course book reflects their world and leaves room for additional topics.
• Students receive a report card grade from Grade 3 onwards.
• In grades 5 and 6, we use “Lighthouse” (Cornelsen Verlag).
• From Grade 5 onwards, students take written exams.
• From their first year of learning, children regularly practise speaking on their own and interacting in conversations through presentations, dialogues, role-play activities, etc.
• Using new media is also important: whenever possible, students regularly practise and do research online in the school’s computer room.
• We celebrate events such as Halloween, Pancake Day, Christmas and Easter to teach children about the cultures and traditions of English-speaking countries.
